Birkdale United AFC

Five players from Birkdale United Under 9′s Girls team, today took part in the West Lancashire Girls League five a side tournament. The 10 Teams who took part were Aspull Girls, Birkdale United, Burnley FC, Bury Girls, Burscough JFC, Dynamo Rangers, Euxton Girls, Litherland Ladies, Mill Hill FC & TMS.

The girls made a very good start to the tournament winning their first two games, losing their third and drawing their final game, to finish 3rd in their group.

Birkdale players, L. McGuire, P. Rigby, R. Scanlan, C. Macbeth and C. Carney were all awarded a participation medal for their effort. Manager Peter Caffrey would like to thank all the girls’ parents for their support, and the team sponsor, local company, TBS – Technical Building Services for funding the kit for the team.

After the short trip to the home pitch of Millers, a strong Birkdale team managed eight goals past a much improved Millers team.

Terrible cold, terrible fog, but this did not stop Birkdale United Under 12′s Girls continuing their run of excellent form at their home ground of Bedford Park in Southport, many thanks to Dynamo Rangers for making this away trip in horrible conditions. (more…)

Carr Lane, Birkdale was cold, wet and windy, a horrible afternoon for football but a good performance by Birkdale made light of the conditions. Birkdale’s first goal came after just one minute with a great shot from the edge of the penalty area by L. Williams. (more…)

The Under 12′s Girls were back at their home ground of Bedford Park, in Southport and, another great Birkdale girls effort having scored 27 GOALS in their last 3 games, a good performance from every girl with a special mention to S. Allen, who had a very composed game. (more…)

The Managers’ Meeting has now been rescheduled to Sunday 30th November 2008, at the Blundell Arms, Birkdale. It will commence at 6.30pm. All Managers are expected to attend, any apologies should be forwarded to Club Secretary, Sharon Caul.

A sunny Sunday afternoon saw Town Green Lions travel to Carr Lane, Birkdale, Southport. After the game last week, the boys knew they had to improve 10 fold and boy did they do that. (more…)

A glorious afternoon for football, spoilt slightly by the pitch which was well worn and particularly muddy in both of the goal mouths.   Hesketh Colts won the toss and decided to change ends to make Birkdale play into the sun in the first half. (more…)

Everyone at Birkdale United, would like to wish a speedy recovery to A. Johnson from our Under 16′s Boys team, following an injury sustained at a game on Saturday 15th November 2008, which resulted in surgery at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

Birkdale started slowly as usual, but managed to go in at half time two goals up scored by E. Ormerod and K. Heron. The reason they only scored two goals in the first half was due to an impressive performance by the Burscough goalkeeper and their talented No 8. (more…)

Birkdale United Under 13′s Girls Football team were at their home ground of Bedford Park, in Southport today on a very cold wet November day.  The girls put in an excellent performance in the first half with some good passing and Birkdale were unlucky not to score with many attempts on goal.  Allen and Dorman were unlucky not to hit the back of the net. The Birkdale defence of Dolan and Redford prevented any attempts from TMS getting through.  At half time the score remained at 0-0.  (more…)

Today saw Birkdale North girls football team back at their home ground of Bedford Park, Birkdale. Facing Athletico Girls, a team they knew very little about. The weather was cold, wet and windy, with the ball moving very fast on the greasy pitch. (more…)

A game of two halves
 
Birkdale started slowly today, in fact almost at pensioner pace, this resulted in the home side going a goal down to a debated penalty, which was awarded for an unavoidable ball to knee to hand. The home supporters were begining to get anxious when our very own ”Pocket Rocket ” E. Ormerod, rounded the keeper and scored brilliantly from an acute angle. (more…)
