Birkdale made a bright start to this game but it was Formby who scored first after 9 minutes, against the run of play, a teasing corner from the left headed into the goal. Birkdale continued to press forward and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area after 16 minutes. J Frew stepped up to fire the ball into the top left corner. Two minutes later, Birkdale went ahead when D Platts latched on to a through ball from G Rawsthorne and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. New team Birkdale United Under 8`s North claim First Victory

The boys beat Southport Trinity Whites 5-2 in a friendly played at the Rookery on Sunday 14th December

Following on from the earlier victory for the South team, Birkdale Under 8`s North secured a great win on a fantastic playing surface.

Despite being short of 4 strong players due to illness and injury the team battled well for 40 minutes and deserved more than the five goals scored. (Two of the goals were absolute screamers, going into the top corner).

Rather than name a man of the match it was decided that they all should take the honour (including Joe, our on – loan player for the day).

So well done, Jonathan, Sam, James, Cameron (one goal), Max (four goals) and Alex.

Hopefully when Christopher, Lukas, Thomas and Matthew are available there will be more thrilling results.

A sunny morning saw the local derby between the two Birkdale under 9′s. We started very sharp with crisp passing and a few goal mouth misses from Lunt and Burrill. Finally breaking the deadlock with a Lunt to Rimmer one two followed by a Lunt stinger in the back of the net. A good few strong counter attacks from Birkdale ‘S were dealt with confidently by the new pairing in defence of Hanlon and Farrelly keeping the game balanced in our favour. Two more goal mouth misses from Burrill and Rimmer could have sealed a strong first half performance from all the team. (more…)

Birkdale made a slow start to the game allowing Redgate to have slightly the better of the early exchanges.

The first real chance of the game fell to L Aindow who forced a good save from the Redgate keeper. After 22 minutes Redgate were awarded a penalty for a trip just inside the penalty area which they converted. Within two minutes Birkdale were level through a well taken goal by L Williams. Two minutes before half time, Birkdale took the lead following a cross from the right by L Williams, knocked into the net by D Platts. (more…)

Today saw Birkdale United Under 12′s Girls come up against a big strong Fillies side on one of the muddiest pitches they had played on for a long time, a real challenge ahead. (more…)
