Under 8 Falcons Southport Fun Fest

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

In the first game against another Birkdale side, the Birkdale Falcons lads started really well with some great flowing passing which resulted in Bowden drilling the ball in to the bottom corner. From there the boys pushed on with some great wide play from Hayward and Bowden which resulted in goals for Huyton and Cook

In the second game against Trinity, the lads shot out of the blocks and began to put lots of pressure on the opposition midfield. The pressure paid off when a great bit of passing play resulted in Cook slotting home. The boys continued to to dominate the midfield and the defenders limited Trinity to few chances. Then the boys sealed the win with a powerful shot that the Trinity keeper was unable to stop.

The final game was a well fought battle that the boys gave their all in. The game did not start well when the boys fell behind to an early Ormskirk strike. However, the lads never gave up hope and were rewarded when battling in the midfield resulted in Cook being put through on goal and he did what he does best, slotting the ball past the keeper. After the goal, the game became a lot more open which meant many chances for both teams but neither were able to find the back of the net. This meant that there would be a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Unfortunately it finished in Ormskirk’s favour, but the boys should still be very proud of their achievements.

Under 8 Falcons Ormskirk/R&T Tournaments

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Birkdale Falcons u8′s had an outstanding Ormkskirk tournament as they finished runners up. Unfortunately they were undone in the final  by a last-minute goal. However, there were lot of positives from the tournament as the lads got a victory against Southport Trinity with what was one of the goals of the tournament. The lads also got two other victories which came against SVR and Ormskirk West End. The lads should be so proud of everything they achieved as it shows how they have progressed over the year.

The lads also took part in the R&T Tours tournament a few weeks ago and produced some more great results where they came away with a victory over  Town Green. The boys were also pipped here as they finished runners-up to a strong Formby Juniors team. The weekend was capped off with the team receiving medals from former England international Paul Gascoigne.

On Saturday 30th May,  Birdale Diamonds Under 11 travelled to the Golborne tournament. The girls started the tournament slowly with a 1-0 loss in their first game against Delamere Rangers. As the group stages progressed they gained momentum and put in some fine performances, winning several games which put them through to the semi final playoffs. They faced Delamere
Rangers in the semi final and put in a great team effort to beat them 1-0.In the final they faced Wigan Athletic, and the game ended 0-0 in normal time so the final went into extra time. Unfortunately for the Diamonds, Wigan scored a goal in the last minute of extra time, which left them with not enough time to respond.Well done to the Diamonds on a fantastic team effort
on what was one of the hottest days of the year.
