Dynamo Rangers v Birkdale D

Saturday, September 5th, 2009
Date:         Saturday 5th September 2009
Location:        Liverpool Road, Skelmersdale
Result:  Dynamo Rangers (2) Birkdale D (3)

An early morning kick off ensured a wet and windy start to the season as Birkdale girls took on Dynamo. From the beginning Birkdale looked the sharper putting Dynamo under pressure with attempts from T Elliot, A Welford and L Edmonson. Eventually due to prolonged pressure T Elliot scored to make it 1-0. Dynamo then began to get into their stride pressurising Birkdale’s defensive line of C Mentha,G Cunliffe and E Core forcing a great reaction save from E Harrison. Substitutions rolled throughout the match with V Grocott coming on for the injured C Mentha and C Molyneux coming on for A Welford. The half closed 1-0 to Birkdale.
The second half saw Birkdale play some wonderful passing football from midfield by L Smith and R Hubbard which resulted in a second goal for Birkdale with a great strike from R Hubbard. After several more attempts from C Molyneux just going wide and L Smith hitting the crossbar, Birkdale finally saw their efforts rewarded when L Edmonson turned her defender and struck the ball well, into the top right corner of the net, to make it 3-0.At this stage Birkdale should have been home and dry. However Dynamo, to their credit, began to fight back and bagged themselves two goals in quick succession, which forced Birkdales defence into action with some great interceptions from G Cunliffe and V Grocott and some tight marking from A Seddon. The game finished with a win for Birkdale D, the girls football team from Southport.
