This game was out of the blue having not played since November 20th we found out we had to play a league game against the league’s unbeaten leaders. Unfortunately it was our Captain’s birthday party so four regular first team starter players where unavailable. This meant a start for new player Armstrong who had never played a competitive football game before. Also our two defenders that have only been with us for three games had to start due to Mentha and Core missing.
The game started with Crosby Ladies pressuring Birkdale’s defenders but they stood tall and stopped Crosby from shooting at goal. They just kept coming at us giving our midfield no chance of being able to play any football this carried on for most of the first half but we managed to keep it at 0-0 for the first half and kept Crosby limited to a few long shots all dealt with by g.o.t.m Harrison in the Birkdale goal.
The second half started as the first did with Crosby pressuring us leaving Birkdale restricted to break aways on the odd occasion. With around 15 minutes to go Birkdale started to tire and after three fantastic saves by Harrison in goal, Crosby got theire first from a long range shot which wasn’t closed down. Birkdale’s heads dropped and three minutes later a good move from Crosby and a great cross found three Crosby players unmarked on the backpost to make it 2-0 Crosby.
Birkdale did have some good pressure in the last 10 but after all their hard work in the game and what Duggy the manager says having no consistency in there games week after week Birkdale`s fitness is only at 80%. Hopefully after Christmas we can get a run of games and climb the league.

WELL DONE ALL – UP TO NOW  WE HAVE ONLY PLAYED 6 GAMES THIS YEAR AND 8 PLAYERS ONLY JOINED US IN SEPTEMBER HAVING NEVER PLAYED A FOOTBALL MATCH BEFORE. TODAY WITH 4 MAIN PLAYERS MISSING AND HAVING A NEW PAIRING IN DEFENCE AND A NEW PLAYER STARTING WE DID VERY VERY WELL - KEEP YOUR HEADS UP
