New Players Needed!

Birkdale United AFC is looking for players for it’s teams for the new season, 2010-11. Players are welcome at all age groups, but at present we are particularly looking for:

- Under 16 Girls
- Open Age Ladies (especially a goalkeeper!)
- Under 8 Birkdale Falcons (Outfield and ‘Keeper)
- Under 12 Birkdale Black (Outfield and ‘Keeper)

Birkdale United AFC Club Presentation

Advance notice for you all, the annual Club Presentation will take place on Saturday 3rd July at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Lord Street, Southport. It will take a similar format to last year’s presentation, with the younger teams being presented with their trophies and medals in the early afternoon, and the older teams being received late afternoon to early evening. Precise times will be advised when we have them. Please keep this date clear!

The Tournament page returns to the Club Website, we are trying to advertise as many Football Tournaments as we can over the next few months, if you see one that you think your team should enter, tell your Manager to check it out.

Players Sought!

As always, we welcome new players at a variety of different age groups. However, we are particularly keen on the following:

- A Year 2 Goalkeeper for one of our Under 7 teams.

-A Year 4 or 5 female goalkeeper for our Under 9/10 team – we currently have one excellent goalkeeper in this age range but need another to be able to run both teams.

We are also looking for girls in school years 3 to 5 for next year’s Under 9 and Under 10 Girls’ teams. Anyone interested is invited to contact the Club Secretary via the Contacts page.

Under 6 and 7 Coaching Sessions Begin

The first sessions for next year’s Under 7′s players will be starting soon. Boys and Girls in Year 1 who would like to start playing football are invited to attend training at Carr Lane, Birkdale, starting on Saturday 27th October at 10am. Next Managers’ Meeting

Many thanks to everyone who supported the recent Race Night at the Blundell Arms, which raised over £300 for the Club. It was a very enjoyable evening, and many thanks should go to the Fundraising Committee for organising the event.

Did you know that your team’s manager will probably arrive a minimum of one hour before the team’s kick off time?

Have you ever?

Offered to help construct the goals, put the corner flags in place, check the pitch is clear to play football on?

Don’t you think…

…that your team’s manager has enough to worry about without having to collect in weekly subs and training money and keep records of it, while sorting tactics, treating injuries etcetera?

What about at the end of the game?

Do you think you could spare 10 minutes to help take the goals down?

Have you ever thought…

…that you have a skill, qualification or level of expertise that you have which could be used to help your team and its manager?

Managers always need help, if you feel that you could help them please, please offer. If you feel you could help the Club in a different capacity, then please contact the Club Secretary.

Birkdale United Quiz Night

You are warmly invited to the first Birkdale United Quiz Night, in aid of club funds. This will take place on Sunday 20th September at the Blundell Arms, Upper Aughton Road, Birkdale. The quiz will start at 8pm prompt, and entry is £1 per team member.

Website Upgrade

Please be patient while the website upgrades take place, there is a lot of content to move and also new pages to be created. Please rest assured though the website will still be available whilst we work.

Next season Birkdale United will host 26 teams all playing football locally, so be sure to keep checking back for more information.

Club receives prestigious awards

At the recent Liverpool County FA Charter Standard Awards Evening, the Club and its coaches were delighted and surprised to receive a number of awards.

Birkdale United was named Charter Standard Community Club of the Year, following on from the Development Club of the Year award of twelve months ago. This is a phenomenal achievement and every member of the club should feel great pride as everyone has worked towards this prestigious honour.

It was also a fantastic night for Club Chairman, Kevin Stockley, who was named not only LCFA Coach of the Year but also North West Coach of the Year. Both of these awards are just reward for the work which Kevin has put in, not only this year but over the many years he has been involved with the club. He now goes forward to the National awards and we wish him the very best of luck!
