The cup final tonight at Burscough FC and what a great night it was with the West Lancs Girls football league putting on a show for the girls letting them come out of the tunnel with their names shouted over the speaker system.

The match started with Birkdale on good form and pinning Crosby back with some good attacking football but with Carla in their nets it was very difficult to break them down she was making save after save with the stand out one coming from a shot by Macy outside the box it was going in the top right corner but Carla did a spectacular save to push the ball out for a corner. Even Alice their forward was playing very deep but after 15mins the goals started to come with the first from Ava who saw the ball loose from the back and took a great first time shot to curl the ball over the keeper to take the lead ..1-0….this was what Birkdale needed as it helped calm the nerves and it wasn’t long before Macy added a second with a cool calm finish in the corner of the net….2-0…the third goal was an excellent team goal with Faye passing to Emily she passed to Lily across to Molly out wide to Ava who had a cross come shot to Macy that went into the net …..3-0…..

Half time….

The second half was still an excellent game to watch with Crosby still playing very deep and trying to get a goal on the counter Alice was always a threat but didn’t get the goal she deserved as Faye was doing her normal excellent job in the Birkdale net and Megan was outstanding in defence keeping it simple and not letting anyone get past her. The Birkdale team were still pressing for another goal and it came after more great work from the midfield of Molly/lily/Robyn/Ava the ball broke to Macy to score her 60^th goal of the season (well done) ….4-0….

Just to say how well all the girls played and the manager’s and parents were all very proud of what they have achieved this season with the league and cup double.

The fund-raising committee at Birkdale united are asking for donations for their raffle and tombola stall to raise funds for next season .  If you have any items that you wish to donate please give them to your team managers or ring me on 01704  573619 and I will arrange collection or drop them off when you are passing to 27 Liverpool Ave, Ainsdale, Southport PR8 3NF.

We are also looking for volunteers for our annual tournament in July (7th, 8th, 14,and 15th July).  Can you help with one of our stalls selling sweets or the tombola.  Dads can you help as car park stewards? Birkdale United Annual Presentation is Saturday 30th June 2012 The mini-soccer presentation will commence at Greenbank High School Hastings Road at 2pm until 4pm and the 11-a-side and adult teams will commence at 4.30pm until 6.30pm. 

There is a £2 entrance fee for all adults (Children Free)  Also there will be refreshments available on the day coffee,tea, crisps, sweets etc.

The girls won the League on Saturday 21st April 2012 with a 6-0 win over Dynamo Girls.  The girls have a 100% records this season and are still unbeaten in the league.

The League Cup was won at Burscough FC with hat-tricks from Emily Ormerod and Tash Meadows and a fantastic team performance with a 6-1 win over Bleak Hill Girls.

Well done girls from everyone at Birkdale United.

Back to playing on Bedford park now not the best pitch but it still provided for an entertaining game, it was very end to end chances for both teams coming close but once again it was Macy who started the goals with a good pass from Emily, Macy managed to slot the ball into the corner of the net   …..1-0…

Birkdale’s second goal came from our great keeper Faye whom tried to kick long to Macy but the bounce tricked everyone and it snuck in the net (well done Faye)…..2-0…

It was still end to end with Ava and Megan working great at the back today with excellent support from Molly/Lily/Robyn and Emily. But it was Dynamo who scored next from the penalty spot after a corner when Megan forgot she wasn’t in nets and caught the ball in the box (we’ve all done it ) .

..2-1…..half time

The second half was much the same very exciting to watch but it was Birkdale who kept putting the ball in the net with Macy adding 4 (four) more goals to her tally with great assists from Emily while sat on the floor!, Megan passed with her left foot! (after some intense  1-2-1 training)  Molly with some great 1-2’s and Ava being everywhere on the pitch! Dynamo did score a good consolation goal towards the end to make the final score …..6-2……..

Now the goals came thick and fast with Ava calmly finishing in the bottom right corner but Crosby were not out of it yet with a break Alice scored a great goal to make it …2-1….

Then it was Birkdale’s turn again with Macy breaking free to smash in the 3^rd and her 50^th goal of the season (well done) ….3-1……

It was a good open game now with Crosby coming close a few times but Megan and Emily together with Faye were doing well stopping Alice and the Crosby attack doing any more damage and it was Emily whom got on the score sheet next advancing forward for a corner she got a shot towards goal that just crept in past the post……4-1…..half time.

The second half was again a good game with both teams getting chances but with excellent defending and goal- keeping there were no more goals until half way through when Macy had a run at goal Carla made a great save but the ball was loose and Molly was there to score a great poachers goal….5-1…….full time.

Today saw Birkdale travel out to Golborne on a bright and sunny day and this is how Birkdale started with a shot from Macy within 3 seconds stopped well on the line by the keeper but it was a sign of how the match was going to be with Birkdale continuously attacking Golborne from every angle the goals came thick and fast with Macy getting (4), Lily (1) and Molly (1) ending the first half …6-1…..

Half time……

The second half saw Golborne hold their ground more for the first 10 mins only letting Emily get on the score sheet with a great individual effort but then Birkdale broke them down again with more goals for Macy (2), Robyn (1) and Ava (1) making the final score ….11-1…..

Well done to all the girls especially Megan for going in nets this week and to the poorly and injured girls for still coming down and playing.

Under 10 Charity Shield Final (Under 10) Birkdale Utd. Black 1 Formby FC Panthers 0

Birkdale United Blacks under 10′s beat Formby Panthers in an exiting Charity Shield Cup Final, at Formby Cricket Club. Both teams were outstanding as they competed in glorious sunshine. The deadlock was broken when Birkdale’s right-back Tom Woods scored an amazing goal from within his own half with a free kick that dipped into the Formby Panthers goal from over 30 yards. The score at the interval was 1-0 as the teams took a well deserved breather.

 The second half commenced with more pressure from Birkdale as Kyle Joseph nearly doubled United’s lead with a shot inches wide. Formby’s defence was rock solid as Birkdale piled on the pressure as Ben Culshaw and Andrew Jones came close to adding to the score. Formby added to a nail biting finale by pushing Birkdale back into their own penalty area with corner after corner but Birkdale’s defensive general Connor Wheeler cleared the lines. Birkdale held on till the final whistle to lift the trophy after both teams competed in an even contest. Manager Jon Hayward and assistant Rhys Smith were thrilled with the team. Manager Jon Hayward said ” well done to all the boys in our squad, it was a difficult route to the final with victories over Crosby Stuart and Town Green.  I’m really excited for the team who have shown great promise for next season”. Birkdale United Blacks are currently chasing runners up spot in their respective league after a fantastic season. Well done Birkdale!

The girls beat Bleak Hill girls 6-1 with two outstanding hat-tricks on the night from Emily Ormerod and Tash Meadows,  An outstanding performance from all the team.    The girls remain unbeaten in the League this season and hopefully they will also have the League title to add to this.
